Driving the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

The Mulholland Highway winding through the hills above Malibu, Calif., proves a good a stretch of road as any to test drive the fast and furious (but extraordinarily well-behaved) Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. Of the 21 total 911 variants currently in the Porsche range, the Carrera GTS stands out for its seemingly extreme power—courtesy of a flat-6 engine producing 430 hp and 324 ft lbs of torque—paired with sufficient handling to satisfy daily driving requirements. But with a tap of the gas pedal, this German-made monster reveals its race-worthy performance muscles. Compared to the base Carrera, the GTS includes an additional 30 hp, a gurgling sport exhaust system, and center-lock wheels—and, like all the 911 models, distinctive good looks. The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS starts at $115,000. (porsche.com)
