The Aïana Wave Is Perhaps the World’s Most Ergonomic Aircraft Seat

  • Mary Grady

The Swiss firm Yasava Solutions SA has created a new, ergonomically designed, lie-flat seat for business jets that promises to take the discomfort out of long flights. The Aïana Wave seat was designed with a special focus on human physiology and with the help of research from aeromedical sciences and sleep psychology. The seat can easily be adjusted using precision mechanics and gravity, without the need for electrical actuation. Its wide variety of positions helps provide comfort, even during long globe-hopping flights, and promotes better circulation and easier breathing. The seat cushions are designed to offer plentiful support that is optimized for the body mass pressure map.

The seats also are featured in Yasava’s Astral cabin-design concept. They can be paired for use as double beds and sofas. The company says the design aims to promote social interaction and maximize the flexible use of cabin space. Yasava introduced the new seats in May at the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition, in Geneva, and went home with six letters of intent from customers. (yasava.com)
