The Best of the Best 2003: Business Jets - Gulfstream V

By next year, the new Gulfstream 500 and 550 will become the company’s standard-bearers for long-distance travel. Until then, the Gulfstream V remains the flagship for the fleet of business jets. The $40 million G-V, which can seat as many as 19 passengers, has been in service since 1997 and is still considered one of the fastest and most reliable intercontinental jets on the market.

Last year, a G-V cruised from Tokyo to Los Angeles in eight hours and 27 minutes, averaging 643.86 mph—albeit aided by a stiff tailwind. Another G-V flew east from Washington to Denver, with stops in Moscow and Zurich, traveling 10,334 miles in just under 22 hours.

The G500 and G550 will include more cabin space and luggage room than the G-V, but until they are available in 2004, the 168 G-Vs that are currently in service will more than suffice.
