A Traveler's Guide to Business Jets: Light Aircraft: Bombardier Learjet 31A

<< Back to Robb Report, January 2005

Because most of the private flights flown in the United States are of short duration, light jets are the workhorses. They can accommodate a CEO visiting several remote offices in one day or a small family traveling from the Northeast to Florida for a weekend vacation. Although the prices will vary from one provider to the next, charter rates start at $1,900 per hour, and a one-sixteenth fractional share (50 annual hours) costs about $375,000.

In 1990, the Learjet 31A replaced the Learjet 31 and became one of the faster small jets available. The plane’s winglets were designed to deliver maximum performance and handling at fast speeds and high altitudes. The 31A, which was recently replaced on Bombardier’s Wichita, Kan., production line by the Learjet 40, is certified to operate in 21 countries.
