Yachting Developments Bristolian

Low-riding with towering black sails that include a lion’s crest, the Yachting Developments Bristolian (+64.9.417.0060, www.yachtingdevelopments.co.nz) is representative of the new breed of fast, oceangoing superyachts from New Zealand. Bristolian’s owner, a racing sailor, wanted a yacht that would perform well at sea, while his wife wanted one that would be comfortable belowdecks. Designer Philippe Briand satisfied both by designing a 120-foot-long black hull built with advanced composites that are strong and lightweight. The boat’s Southern Spars EC6 carbon-fiber rigging is also lightweight—1,500 pounds lighter than a traditional rig. An interior wall featuring sycamore veneer placed over a foam core saves weight and gives the salon and staterooms a clean, comfortable feel. Bristolian’s centerline skylight fills the cabin with natural light, adding to its open ambience.
