The Best of the Best 2003: Megayachts - Hakvoort

The invitation to board Campbell Bay, the 146-foot Hakvoort yacht, sounded more like a plea than a request. “I need to take you on my boat,” said the vessel’s owner, Peggy Bey. The tour explained Bey’s insistence. The yacht is a carefully planned exercise in thematic interior design.

The five guest staterooms—Provence, Florence, Monnickendam, Newport, and Dorset—derive their names as well as their design motifs from places that the Beys especially enjoy visiting. Yellow bedcovers allude to the Provence countryside; a Monet-like painting hangs in Florence; blue sheets, blankets, and pillows represent, in Dutchlike coolness and cleanliness, the quaint hamlet of Monnickendam. New England practicality takes the form of bunk beds in Newport, and a commissioned painting of a shaggy brown-and-white setter standing in the town of Dorset hangs in the stateroom named after the English town. “I actually met that dog,” Bey says.

The Beys plan to make Campbell Bay available for charter, providing clients with the opportunity to experience the couple’s favorite five destinations either in person or onboard.
