The Best of the Best 2003: Sailboats - Royal Huisman

<< Back to Robb Report, June 2003

For more than two decades, three sailboats named Borkumriff—each one slightly larger than the previous version—were the vessels of choice for a German owner. The pattern continued with Borkumriff IV, a 164-foot Royal Huisman for which he hired two designers: Alden Design and Gerard Dijkstra & Partners. The team created a schooner that, with its classic lines and clipper bow, harks back to 19th-century New England sailboats. The full-beam salon, which can be configured into an enclosed lounge and eight-person dining area, is bathed in natural light. With a master suite and twin staterooms, the owner and his wife can host four guests.
