Best Of The Best 2006: United Nations

What do you get when you combine the talents of an Italian yacht builder, a French designer, and a Kiwi naval architect? A performance sailboat displaying Danish Modern design elements, of course. While Remi Tessier’s minimalist interior for the 177-foot Parsifal III is a stunningly beautiful example of Scandinavian simplicity that incorporates ebony, stainless steel, and leather, the yacht’s technology is its most notable feature.

This is, after all, the fastest boat that Perini Navi has ever built, as mandated by the watercraft’s Danish entrepreneur owner, Kim Vibe-Petersen. Lighter and lower in profile than the boatbuilder’s past vessels, and powered by a single engine—a departure for Perini—Parsifal III is also the first Perini yacht to utilize carbon-fiber masts, a detail that reduces weight aloft by approximately 15 percent. Perini’s first fixed keel, designed by naval architect Ron Holland, enhances the boat’s windward performance.

Clever space planning and equally clever shifting walls and furniture offer the possibility for a five- or six-stateroom layout.
