Best Things First: Off The Charts

Camper & Nicholsons (954.524.4250, www.cnconnect.com) has been a yacht industry leader for nearly 150 years, and its charter services—one of many yacht-related services that it offers—are without parallel. Its selection of sailing and power yachts ranges from the peerless 325-foot Christina O to the 64-foot sportfisher Essco. But its experienced staff can offer more than fabulous yachts. A few years ago, a gentleman called the company to plan a surprise 10th wedding anniversary for his wife. He wanted to hold a vow-renewal service witnessed by a few close friends aboard a 150-foot motoryacht in the waters off of the Virgin Islands.

Yacht charter agent Ann Landry reserved the vessel, hired the crew, and arranged all of the details for the ceremony, which included flying in handmade leis from Hawaii for the bride and groom to wear while they restated their I do’s (a special request from the husband). “It’s traditional in Hawaii to toss the leis in the water after the ceremony,” explains Landry. “If they float back to shore, you will return there as well.” The ritual worked its magic, sort of; the couple booked the same yacht the following year for another vacation
