Cheoy Lee Shipyards Unveils Its New Sporty Cruiser

Family owned and operated for more than 140 years, the Chinese builder Cheoy Lee Shipyards has debuted the newest addition to its Alpha line of sporty cruisers, the Alpha 87 Express Sportbridge. At 87 feet in length, it is the longest yacht in the Alpha series. The yacht designer Michael Peters penned the boat’s naval architecture, whose sweeping lines and long windows suggest speed. When equipped with a pair of 1,900 hp Caterpillar engines, the Alpha 87 achieves speeds in excess of 30 knots.

The American designer Luiz de Basto created the Alpha 87’s clean, contemporary interiors, which combine dark wood paneling with white walls and furnishings. The open layout of the main deck includes the saloon, galley, and dining area. Below deck, the yacht’s owner enjoys a full-beam master suite equipped with a king-size bed, walk-in closet, and en suite bathroom with paired marble sinks. Forward, past two semicircular wooden staircases that link the main deck with the living quarters, are the yacht’s three cabins, which also feature en suite bathrooms.

Both the flybridge and aft deck of the Alpha 87 are equipped with lounging areas, and the latter features two large settees, a wet bar, and a hot tub that, when covered, doubles as a sun pad. Forward on the flybridge is an intimate, bow-facing seating area. The yacht is equipped with a swim platform at the stern and a garage capable of housing a 10-foot tender or personal watercraft.
