FrontRunners: Frauscher’s Day Cruiser

<< Back to Robb Report, May 2009

Frauscher’s 686 Lido Editione Dino Feltrinelli (www.frauscherboats.com) embodies the spirit of an early-20th-century speed demon and the aesthetic of a contemporary furniture designer. The day cruiser—a very-limited-edition, $214,000 26-footer powered by a Volvo Penta V-8 capable of producing 500 hp—is named for the member of Italy’s Feltrinelli boatbuilding family who competed on the European powerboat-racing circuit in the 1920s and ’30s. Frauscher, an Austrian boatbuilder, enlisted contemporary furniture designer Annette Hinterwirth to conceive the look and the ergonomics of the Editione Dino Feltrinelli. Her deftness at combining attractive form and clever functionality is evident in the forward deck, which electronically converts to a table or lounge.
