Seafaring adventurers can charter one of a number of superyachts this summer to travel to far-flung locations including the Galápagos Islands, Panama, Baltic Sea, and Indian Ocean, among others. These exceptional long-range explorers cruise far and wide while still offering all the comfort and luxury found in megayachts that are commonly seen cruising the Mediterranean. Here are a few of our favorite adventurous megayachts available now.

The 148-foot explorer vessel Big Fish, built by New Zealand’s McMullen & Wing shipyard, cruises comfortably through icy waters while visiting both the North and South Poles—the yacht has already cruised Antarctica—thanks to a hull built to withstand such conditions, as well as decks made of durable epoxy-infused granite instead of teak. When visiting warmer waters, charter guests will find that the plentiful water toys aboard Big Fish, including diving, snorkeling, and fishing gear, provide an abundance of activities.

With a 7,000-nautical-mile range and a hull built to ice-class specifications, the Lürssen-built Northern Star is suited to navigate the world’s most extreme conditions. Recent charters have taken the yacht from Greenland and Norway to the Galápagos Islands and through the Panama Canal. With an interior that resembles an English country manor, the yacht offers such amenities as a movie theater and a main saloon with a roulette wheel and a Steinway grand player piano; the saloon can also convert into a dance floor. A crew of 22 will ensure that all of Northern Star’s passengers are well tended to during long stints at sea.

Built by the German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen, Silver Cloud features a Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull marked by a superwide 58-foot beam. This design places the bulk of the yacht’s displacement below the waterline, thus making the 135-foot expedition yacht nearly impervious to most wave turbulence and solidifying its go-anywhere attitude. While Silver Cloud has already seen ports throughout the Baltic Sea and northern Europe, this summer it will venture to a number of exotic locations throughout the Southern Hemisphere. And in case guests need to get to or from any of these remote destinations in a hurry, the yacht features an aft-deck helipad for guests who bring their own helicopter.

After launching in 2010, the Perini Navi–built Exuma began a global circumnavigation that took the 164-foot yacht along the Pacific coast of Central America, making stops in Costa Rica and Panama’s San Blas and Las Perlas Islands. Designed by the famed naval architect Philippe Briand, the yacht has a 7.5-foot draft that allows it to nose into shallow coves that are inaccessible to most yachts of its size. This summer, Exuma—which took Robb Report’s Best of the Best prize for custom megayachts in 2011—will traverse areas of the Pacific Ocean, thanks to a considerable range of 5,500 nautical miles.
