Formerly, he served as the editor in chief and creative director of a student-run art and literary magazine at the University of Iowa, where he studied literature, creative writing, journalism, and art history. He has also edited and designed the North American newsletter of an international nonprofit organization. He is an amateur musician and aspiring novelist.
