Ear Candy: Denon’s Stylish Artisan Headphones

The Japanese brand Denon has redesigned its top-of-the-line Music Maniac Artisan AH-D7100 circumaural headphones ($1,200) to create a pristine listening experience. Their frequency response ranges from an ultralow 5 Hz all the way up to 45 kHz, thanks to a new driver design, which is more like that of a loudspeaker than that of a pair of headphones. The 2-inch drivers each comprise a nanofiber diaphragm, which is extremely rigid yet lightweight, thus enabling the drivers to push air efficiently and with resonance-free precision. The headphones themselves weigh less than 1 pound, and Denon outfits them with memory-foam ear pads covered in buttery-soft synthetic leather, making them extra comfortable for long listening sessions. The ear cups are mahogany with a reinforced glass-fiber casing. The headphones come with a 3-foot cable with an in-line remote and standard one-eighth-inch audio jack and an additional 10-foot heavy-duty, tangle-resistant cable with a one-quarter-inch gold-plated jack (both cables are detachable), as well as a display stand and a durable carrying pouch.
