Front Runners May 2015: Picture, If You Will

  • Shaun Tolson

Built by a Danish company specializing in high-end, open-platform, medium-format camera systems, the new Phase One A series (phaseone.com) is available in three models: the A250 ($47,000), A260 ($48,000), and A280 ($55,000). The last two digits in each model name refer to the number of megapixels in the images that the camera produces. Each model is equipped with a 35 mm Rodenstock Alpar lens. Phase One also offers two optional high-resolution Alpagon lenses: an ultrawide 23 mm and an all-around 70 mm. The cameras weigh just a tick more than 4 pounds and feature an attractive and ergonomic grip made of rosewood.
