Boss’s Golden Touch

  • William Kissel

Clothing makers have been adding shimmer to their designs for years hoping that trace amounts of real gold, silver, or platinum would ultimately translate to green at retail. The latest entry comes from Boss Selection, the upscale label of the German-based Hugo Boss brand, which created a collection of limited-edition jeans infused with real gold for spring.

More subtle than showy, the $895 cotton denim jeans are designed in a classic five-pocket silhouette and woven with subtle gold-plated fibers that have been treated with a transparent laminate to retain their sheen, and value, even after multiple washings. Moreover, the distinctive back-pocket embroidery, attached key ring, and embossed leather waist label have also been given the Midas touch. The jeans, which are limited to 300 pairs worldwide, are available by special order only through Boss shops nationwide. (800.484.6267, www.hugoboss.com)
