Aviator sunglasses have remained fashionable since 1937, a year after the U.S. eyewear company Bausch & Lomb created them to shield fighter pilots’ eyes from the sun’s rays. Some credit for the style’s endurance goes to the brands that keep the design fresh by releasing new variations on it. These include Morgenthal Frederics (morgenthalfrederics.com), which offers models made with buffalo horn ($1,095) and titanium and acetate ($575 each). The selection from Oliver Peoples (oliverpeoples.com) includes the gold-tone Piedra model ($280) and the oversize Berenson model ($395).
