FrontRunners: Air Apparent
When danish optometrist Poul-Jørn Lindberg (800.386.9196, www.lindberg.com) discovered in the early 1980s that he needed glasses himself, the last thing he wanted to do was draw attention to his problem with chunky, metal-framed spectacles. He decided that the best glasses “should neither be seen nor felt,” an idea that led to a partnership with Danish architect Hans Dissing and the creation of Lindberg Air Titaniums, a nearly transparent and lightweight collection of hingeless glasses made from bent titanium wire and produced without screws, rivets, or welding. Now Lindberg has applied the concept to sunglasses in his new Lindberg Sport collection. Utilizing the same light-as-air technology as Lindberg’s prescription specs, the $239 shades are made of strong, semipolished titanium. The sunglasses come with 10 separate sets of lenses in graduated color tints, which customers can interchange easily without the use of tools.
