Longtime competitors Ermenegildo Zegna and Salvatore Ferragamo, two of Italy’s most prominent fashion dynasties, have formed a remarkable joint venture to launch a shoe collection that will carry the Zegna (888.880.3462, www.zegna.com) label. The new designs—which range from sport models priced from $195 to dress shoes for $545—combine the sporty spirit of Zegna clothing with the comfort and performance of Ferragamo footwear. The partnership gives Zegna a long sought-after foothold in the upscale shoe business. Nevertheless, Ferragamo chief executive Leonardo Ferragamo is quick to point out that this is not a case of one company stepping on the other’s toes. “We will contribute our DNA and expertise,” he explains, “but the collection—from deck and driving shoes to loafers and lace-up brogues—will have Zegna’s style.”
