The Tailory New York is a new service that delivers custom-tailored men’s and women’s shirts and suits in as little as three to four weeks. Founded by Shao Yang—a former designer, stylist, and tailor—the service combines the personalization of a private tailor with the efficiencies of the latest technology to deliver exacting fit and comfort. Garrett Wexler, vice president of sales, and Yang assess a client’s style, body shape, and profession as guidelines for selecting the best clothing choices. The process begins with a visit to the company’s by-appointment showroom on East 53rd Street off Fifth Avenue where Yang or Wexler take copious measurements. This information is instantaneously transmitted to the Tailory New York workshops in China where individual patterns are digitally created and cut. Next, clients confer on fabric selection, style, and such details as button and stitching choices, custom monograms, and more.

The Tailory New York offers full wardrobe consulting for men and women, which can include making topcoats, dresses, and tuxedos. Shirts in simple cotton start at $150, while shirts in Albini and Thomas Mason fabrics go up to $700. Suits are offered in a wide range of top-quality materials (priced from $895 when made with house materials), including Loro Piana, Dormeuil, and Scabal fabric suits (from $1,900 to $4,000).

“I ultimately fell into custom tailoring because I was literally obsessed with men’s suiting and have always loved the gentlemen era of dress and style,” says Yang, who enjoys collaborating with clients on developing clothes that make them feel good. “There is nothing sexier than a man dressed in a carefully tailored three-piece suit paired with a wide spread collar dress shirt and a tie with the perfect double Windsor knot.” (thetailorynyc.com)
