An Indispensible Accessory for Collared Shirts

Christina Garofalo

“Most men don’t have just one type of dress shirt,” says David Schottenstein, who started the men’s custom clothier Astor and Black, and sold it in 2011. “They have one from Brioni, one from Zegna, one from Kiton—and you can’t find a collar stay to fit them all.” This basic wardrobe challenge is the premise behind Schottenstein’s latest retail endeavor: Swiss Stays, a company that makes adjustable collar stays that swivel to accommodate collars of different shapes and sizes. Available at Brooks Brothers now and at Saks Fifth Avenue starting on Father’s Day, the stays are sold in both 8- and 10-millimeter widths and come in sterling silver ($120 for a pair) or in your choice of PVC, stainless steel, brass, or titanium (from $8 to $50 for a set of three pairs). Schottenstein also plans to release an 18-karat-gold version for the holidays at the end of the year that will be available for custom monogramming. (www.swissstays.com)
