Kiyume: A Curated Men’s Collection
One of Puerto Rico’s most successful retail entrepreneurs, Marie Helene Morrow—who established Reinhold Jewelers 30 year ago and now has 13 stores on the island—has opened her first men’s store, featuring everything from jewelry and watches to bicycles, sculpture, and vintage books. Opened November 1, the Kiyume store is located in Plaza Las Americas in San Juan and is designed as a place for men to linger and play a game of chess or dominoes, enjoy a coffee, or even get a shoeshine while browsing the shop’s offerings.
Known for discovering some of the best jewelry designers and artists and presenting them in her stores long before they were recognized names, Morrow is using her eye for talent and products to create private-label accessories and curiosities for the store. Working with designers around the world, she is presenting everything from distinctive socks ($15) and custom cuff links (mostly between $295 to $6,900) to bar accessories and games. The only brand name in the store is Shinola, for watches, bicycles, and leather goods made in Detroit. “That’s what I love about retail,” Morrow says, “the opportunity to bring inspiring stories to customers by way of the products they buy.” The collection will constantly be evolving to include new artistic designs. The debut lineup includes playful cuff links in the shape of automobiles, airplanes, and turtles; handmade wooden eyewear frames; graphic silver bracelets; and animal-shaped graphite pens.
