Oliver Peoples and Byredo Team Up on Sunglasses and Fragrances
Oliver Peoples has collaborated with the Swedish fragrance house Byredo on new sunglasses and scents that connect sight with smell. The frames ($450) and fragrance ($175), which were unveiled at Barneys, enable wearers to experience the perception of sight and smell simultaneously. The unique concept was forged by Byredo’s master perfumer Jerome Epinette, who was prompted by his own experience with synesthesia—a condition in which one sense triggers another—to explore the connection between sight and smell. The new Oliver Peoples retro-style unisex sunglasses come with semi-matte black or beige crystal frames and in three photochromic-lens colors—champagne, indigo, or green—with matching perfume-bottle colors. Epinette then developed unisex scents that correlate with the colored lenses and bottles. The fragrances are primarily inspired by juniper berries and California lemon with notes of orris butter, patchouli fraction, and hints of musk.
The sunglasses and perfumes are available separately at Oliver Peoples and Byredo stores and, as a box set (one pair of glasses and one bottle of perfume), exclusively at those stores and at Barneys.
