Beachfront restaurants in Los Angeles are better known for their views than for their cuisine, which makes the new Catch Restaurant & Sushi Bar at Casa del Mar (www.hotelcasadelmar.com) a welcome arrival on the shores of Santa Monica. In addition to raw fish, executive chef Michael Reardon serves eclectic entrées—Kurobuto pork loin with apple gnocchi, black bass with vegetable pot-au-feu—that have no apparent common thread aside from their gratifying flavors. The April opening of Catch marked the first phase of Casa del Mar’s ongoing renovation, which culminates this February with the redesign of the hotel’s guest rooms.
