As the executive chef at the Four Seasons in his hometown of Bangkok and the host of The Golden Hand Chef, a weekly TV show that was broadcast in 45 countries, Ian Chalermkittichai became renowned for weaving international flavors into classic Thai dishes. Now he has moved to Manhattan to helm Kittichai (212.219.2000), a new restaurant in the 60 Thompson Hotel. His menu delights diners by skipping the obvious (no pad thai here) and favoring the obscure (Chiang Mai honey-glazed duck with champagne mango and gai-lan). The dining room, dressed with gold silk curtains imported from Thailand, might just trick the chef into thinking he is home again.
