Just a decade ago, the now-defunct, celebrity-owned Planet Hollywood was Aspen’s foremost culinary establishment. Today, with more than 100 restaurants, the mountain resort town counts gourmet cuisine among its many allures. Following are a few of Aspen’s finer dining options. 

 

CARIBOU CLUB: This world-famous private club is arguably Aspen’s most coveted reservation. (970.925.2929).

CLOUD NINE ALPINE BISTRO: Ski in or arrange for a snow cat to transport you to this rustic cabin bistro featuring European alpine fare. (970.544.3063).

COOKING SCHOOL OF ASPEN: Prepare your own gourmet four-course meal with wines paired to each course. (800.603.6004, www.cookingschoolofaspen.com).

HOTEL HEROME: Masterful creations in a comfortable, elegant setting. Signature items include lobster and crab cakes and native rack of lamb. (970.920.1000, www.hoteljerome.com).

KENICHI: Japanese fare fused with Italian, French, and Thai flavors in a sleek setting. (970.920.2212).

KRABLOONIK RESTAURANT AND KENNEL: The oldest of Colorado’s 12 dogsledding companies, Krabloonik offers journeys through Snowmass’ backcountry and national forest before serving a hearty alpine meal. (970.923.4342, www.krabloonik.com).

THE LITTLE NELL: You can enjoy views of Aspen Mountain while dining at the hotel’s Montagna restaurant, but the place to see and be seen is the Greenhouse bar. Members of the hotel-run Aspen Mountain Club can take a gondola to the top of Aspen Mountain for winter parties and social gatherings under the stars. (970.920.4600, www.littlenell.com).

MATSUHISA: Nobu brings his celebrated Japanese restaurant to the Rockies. (970.544.6628, www.nobumatsuhisa.com).

MOGADOR: Fine Spanish and Moroccan fare from C. Barclay Dodge; a private chef’s table seats as many as 12. (970.429.1072).

PINONS: American-Colorado cuisine in a warm, Southwestern atmosphere; a locals’ favorite. (970.920.2021).

ST. REGIS: Expect to find some regional dishes on celebrity chef Todd English’s Mediterranean-inspired Olives menu. Finish the evening in the hotel’s bar, Whiskey Rocks, which features live entertainment. (970.920.7356, www.stregisaspen.com).

SIX89: Located in Carbondale but worth the 30-mile drive. Chef Mark Fischer’s cuisine du monde features a range of gastronomic temptations. (970.963.6890, www.six89.com).

SYZYGY: Phenomenal American cuisine served in an intimate setting. (970.925.3700).
