Mastro’s Ocean Club Steak House Makes a Splash in Malibu, Calif.
Malibu, Calif., is better known for providing respite from the hustle and bustle of Los Angles than for its fine-dining scene. But in recent years, the 26-mile-long scenic coastal town—which is home to the Robb Report headquarters—has blossomed as a dining destination unto itself. The newest feather in its culinary cap is the 11th installment of the Houston-based steak-house chain Mastro’s Restaurants. Mastro’s Ocean Club Malibu opened this summer right along the coastal retreat’s famed beachfront, with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, waves splashing the outside of its windows at high tide, and regular dolphin sightings.
With its ocean-side location, the roughly 5,000-square-foot restaurant serves up a fine selection of seafood in addition to the premium beef dishes for which the brand is revered. Standouts on the surf side include the Chilean sea bass and Maine lobster entrées and the Mastro’s Seafood Tower appetizer—which gives diners their choice of fresh shellfish, including a variety of oysters on the half shell and Alaskan king crab. For turf, the wagyu strip-loin steak is marbled to perfection and melt-in-your-mouth tender. Mastro’s Ocean Club Malibu serves brunch and dinner, and it has private dining rooms as well as a semi-outdoor lounge for taking in the ocean air. (310.454.4357, www.mastrosrestaurants.com)
