The Ment’or Young Chef Competition Series Comes to Bouchon Beverly Hills
Chef Thomas Keller—whose nominee, William Bradley, was named Robb Report’s 2014 Culinary Master—is now hosting his own contest to find the next generation of talented young chefs. On October 30, Keller’s restaurant Bouchon Beverly Hills will hold the second event in the first annual Ment’or Young Chef Competition Series, which pits four up-and-coming chefs against each other in a cooking contest judged by a panel of culinary experts, including Bradley. The winner will receive a three-month staging (valued at $15,000) in a prestigious kitchen, where he or she will refine his or her craft under the tutelage of a master chef. The runner-up will receive a two-month staging (valued at $10,000).
VIP access to the Bouchon Beverly Hills event will begin at 6:00 pm with hors d’oeuvres and wine. Throughout the evening, judges will lead groups of guests on tours of the kitchen, where they will have the chance to see the competitors preparing their dishes up close. The evening’s menu will include steak tartare with potato mille-feuilles; California Sterling white-sturgeon caviar; sea urchin with cucumber and lemon oil; Santa Barbara spot prawns; and applewood-smoked petit jambons with maple glaze.
Tickets to the event are priced at $75, though $100 VIP tickets are also available that include a predinner canapé-and-Champagne reception at Bar Bouchon. All proceeds from the dinner will benefit the Ment’or BKB Foundation, which was established in 2008 by chefs Keller, Daniel Boulud, and Jérôme Bocuse to help support young culinary talent. The series will continue with competitions at Johnson and Wales in Miami on November 8 and the International Culinary Center in New York on November 15. (mentorbkb.org)
