Ponta dos Ganchos Hosts a Culinary Retreat on the Brazilian Coastline

From September 22 to 27, Ponta dos Ganchos resort in southern Brazil is inviting 10 guests to explore the cuisine of that country’s Emerald Coast. The six-day culinary immersion (from approximately $2,900 per couple), led by the resort’s head chef, Luis Salvajoli, features numerous activities and tastings. Among them is a boat tour of the coast’s clam and oyster farms, followed by a tasting of the area’s Santa Catarina oysters, known for their salty and vegetal tones, with Moët & Chandon Champagne on the resort’s private island. There is also a tasting of local coffee blends during a class focused on creating breakfast dishes; a workshop on techniques for preparing and cooking fish, after which guests will dine on seafood stew with Pizzato Legno Chardonnay and Cachaça Gancheira caipirinhas; and a trip with Salvajoli to select vegetables from the on-site organic gardens that will be served at an evening cookout on the veranda.

Between culinary activities, visitors can explore the area’s deserted beaches, visit the historic city of Florianópolis, and tour the nearby cachaça distillery, which produces a Brazilian spirit made from sugarcane. Guests will stay in the resort’s bungalows, which come with daily breakfast, and they will leave with a booklet that includes all the recipes served during the week. A second session of the retreat will be offered from October 22 to 27. (+55.48.3953.7000, www.pontadosganchos.com)
