To help master the artful combination of smoke, fire, and meat, the Alisal Guest Ranch and Resort in Solvang, Calif., is now offering a three-night, four-day BBQ Bootcamp. From October 27 to 30, up to 40 guests ($2,500 for two) will learn different grilling techniques; attend tastings, food pairings, and dinners; and participate in activities such as horseback riding, golf, spa visits, water sports, and more.
The program’s highlights include a private breakfast ride, on which guests can either ride horses or take a hayride to the original adobe house on the Alisal ranch, where they’ll have breakfast alfresco and learn Dutch oven cooking techniques; as well as the spice-blending workshop, during which guests will learn how to use various spices and will create their own blends for different meats. By the end of the excursion, guests will grill their own dinners with the grill masters, and winemakers and local growers will pair wines for the meal. Alisal’s BBQ Bootcamp is offered twice a year.
