If we gave an award for the cigar we would most like to smoke on the golf course, this would be the winner. The H. Upmann Sun Grown (www.altadisusa.com, $6.25 to $7.75) is neither distracting nor overpowering, but strikes a balanced middle ground with an almost candied flavor and a faint thread of strength underneath. The complexity is hardly surprising: This cigar is made by Altadis, the largest cigar company in the world, in its La Flor de Copán factory in Honduras. They have access to some of the finest tobaccos, and José Seijas is a master blender with the finesse of a five-star chef. Working with Jim Colucci (Altadis’executive vice president of sales and marketing) and others, Seijas created the latest variation of a brand that began in 1844. It is made in six sizes, but the 7 x 54 Churchill is our favorite. With its Ecuadoran sun-grown wrapper, broadleaf binder, and Nicaraguan and Honduran filler, this is one cigar that will stay with you, right up to the 18th green.
