To make this limited-edition Dominican rum, the Brugal family’s maestros roneros—masters of rum—each year select rums from 36 of the rarest casks among the 250,000 aging in Brugal’s Puerto Plata cellars. The 2015 Alegría Edition is only the second time the family’s private blend has been made available to the public. Thanks to the rum’s almost syrupy and slightly oaky nuances dusted with ginger and cinnamon, you can practically feel the warm Dominican sun shining through the deep amber color.
- The rums are aged in three types of oak barrel: first-fill Spanish sherry, ex–Pedro Ximénez sherry, and American oak.
- Only 1,000 bottles—actually, Glencairn crystal decanters—were produced; 97 are available in the United States.
- Proceeds benefit the Brugal Foundation, which fights poverty in the Dominican Republic.
