While glassmakers produce a variety of vessels designed for specific spirits or wines, bourbon is generally relegated to chubby rocks tumblers. The spirit’s plight may soon change, however, with the release of the Bourbon Glass, the world’s first glass designed expressly to capture and release the swirling aromas that make American whiskey so appealing. Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel (631.567.7575,, in conjunction with Kentucky bourbon distiller Jim Beam, held three workshops with bourbon experts to determine the ultimate glass shape and style for showcasing the distinct flavors and aromas of the spirit. The result—a small-stemmed glass that stands 45/8 inches tall and has a capacity of 7 ounces—is an ideal vessel for enjoying full-bodied American whiskey.
