FrontRunners: Select Smoke

<< Back to Robb Report, The New 800-Horsepower American Roadster

Rocky Patel’s original Edge cigar series had an appealing simplicity. The cigars were sold in rough-hewn cedar boxes, they had no bands, and they contained earthy Central American tobaccos. The company recently softened the edges of the Rocky Patel Edge by adding a band at the foot and introducing a new Battalion size. Patel warns that Edge cigars, because of their potent flavor, are “for professional smokers only.” But with the Edge Corojo—a standout in the Edge line for its wrapper of difficult-to-cultivate Corojo leaf—that caution applies only to the first few puffs. The Edge Corojo quickly settles into one of the smoothest and most sophisticated of Patel’s smokes. Subtle notes of caramel help tame the cigar’s peppery, Cuban-style flavor. The Edge Corojo comes in four sizes, including the 6 x 52 Toro shown here. ($5.25 each) www.rockypatel.com

Part of Rocky Patel’s new accessories line, the Chairman combines three essential tools in one. A triple-jet butane lighter tops a carbon-fiber cigar case, which extends to accommodate a 7 x 56 cigar. A punch cutter flips out from under the lighter. ($120)
