Best of the Best 2012: Video: Kaleidescape M700 Disc Vault

Kaleidescape M700 Disc Vault

<< Back to Robb Report, 24th Annual Best of the Best

With the Kaleidescape M700 Disc Vault (650.625.6100, www.kaleidescape.com), the Sunnyvale, Calif.–based producer of home-theater servers and playback systems has eliminated the inconveniences associated with Blu-ray Disc viewing while also addressing movie-industry concerns about illegal content sharing. The $6,995 M700, which Kaleidescape began shipping to dealers last summer, copies the contents of Blu-ray Discs to a Kaleidescape server, enabling any player in a home’s Kaleidescape network to instantly display the Blu-ray or standard-video content that the user selects. Because Blu-ray Disc licensing requirements demand that the disc itself be present during playback, the M700 stores as many as 320 discs in a rotating carousel that has the capacity of about 14 linear feet of shelf space. The M700 measures 17.5 inches long, 8.8 inches tall, and 21.9 inches deep, and fits in most audio-video-equipment racks, thus offering quick and seamless access to the highest-quality video content available.
