While McIntosh Labs is best known for the hi-fi products in its model lineup that contribute to the flawless reproduction of two-channel music, the Binghamton, NY, manufacturer has, in recent years, established itself as a leader in the multichannel home theater market as well. The new MX150 Audio/Video Control Center is designed for integration into advanced home theater installations. It distributes and processes audio and video signals from multiple source components so that reproduction will occur with the utmost fidelity.
Blu-ray source components will, of course, provide the highest-resolution picture, but the MX150 also distributes video signals from its five HDMI, two S-video, and two composite video inputs. In addition to decoding various multichannel Dolby and DTS audio signals, the MX150 is also equipped with RoomPerfect technology—advanced processing software developed and patented by Danish audio innovator Peter Lyngdorf that distributes sound evenly throughout the listening space to create a seemingly infinite sweet spot. RoomPerfect also corrects audio frequencies typically subjected to the peaks, dips, and unwanted colorations caused by the confined space of a home theater environment.
The newly unveiled MX150, $12,000, is easily integrated into any home theater installation, though it will be best utilized as part of a system comprising components solely from McIntosh’s complete line of home theater products. (607.723.3512, www.mcintoshlabs.com)
