FrontRunners: See the Organic Light

LG OLED TV

<< Back to Robb Report, The 2013 Ultimate Home

At 55 inches, the LG OLED TV (www.lg.com) is the largest consumer-market TV with a screen that uses organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). The OLEDs illuminate when an electric current passes through them, so the display panel does not require backlighting engines the way LCD and plasma screens do. The absence of the engines enables the new $12,000 TV to be extremely thin (just 4 millimeters, or about one-eighth of an inch, at its thinnest point) and relatively light (about 22 pounds). The LG OLED TV can display video content at 1080p resolution and in 3-D.
