Considering the ubiquity of iPods and the accessibility of high-bandwidth Internet content—music, video, games—it should come as no surprise that a hi-fi company has recognized the need for better-than-average sound for computer listeners. The Xducer 2.1 Loudspeaker System from Xhifi (866.559.4434, www.xhifi.com) is one of the first, and certainly the most comely, in the burgeoning niche of computer speakers.

The Xducer ($995), which consists of two 13-inch-tall, thin, cylindrical speakers and a bottom-firing subwoofer, is enclosed in polished cherry hardwood that further distinguishes it from common computer ware. Most recently, Xhifi announced plans for a multichannel version of the speaker system that will include two additional satellites and a horizontal speaker for the center channel.
