Brazilian jeweler H. Stern ( is showcasing its new asymmetrical diamond cut, the Stern Star, in 21 pieces of jewelry that combine those white gems with black diamonds and the company’s proprietary 18-karat Noble gold, an alloy with a distinctive warm tone. Compared to a typical round, brilliant-cut stone, the Stern Star has a wider table (the flat top) and additional facets in the pavilion (the lower part of the stone), which are positioned to reflect more light. The new jewelry collection references architecture, particularly that of the Art Deco period: Some pieces may evoke a building facade or a staircase, while others recall the futuristic visions of Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis. The pieces range in price from about $20,000 to about $330,000. . . .

Most jewelry is worn, but a new collection can be used to make phone calls. GoldVish Illusion cell phones (, created by watch and jewelry designer Emmanuel Gueit, are made from at least 150 grams of 18-karat gold and include diamonds in a variety of configurations. Prices range from about $29,000 for a version with diamonds on the navigation button to about $1.26 million for Le Million Piece Unique, a limited-edition phone covered with 1,800 diamonds. Only three examples of the latter have been made. Like all of the phones in the series, it includes photo and video capability, an FM radio, and an MP3 player. . . .
