While McIntosh designed this loudspeaker as a center-channel supplement to be placed between a pair of XR200s, users can easily situate it vertically so that it may serve as a right, left, or surround module. Dual eight-inch woofers in a linear array impart a low-end frequency response of 80 Hz, which will more than suffice the vocal frequencies reserved for the center channel. Between the woofers, McIntosh arranged five ¾-inch titanium dome tweeters amid twin rows of four 2-inch titanium mid-range drivers (for a total of eight) in a classic McIntosh point source array, to give the XCS200 a high-end range of 45 kHz. This arrangement provides optimal dispersion and clarity with minimal distortion.
