Live La Dolce Vita at Mandarin Oriental Milan’s New Spa
Mandarin Oriental Milan’s stylish new 9,600-square-foot spa aims to bring serenity to Europe’s flourishing capital of fashion, art, and design. Situated in a moodily lit subterranean level of the new 104-room hotel—just steps from the chic showrooms of top Italian brands Dolce & Gabbana, Brioni, and Salvatore Ferragamo—the six-treatment-room spa (officially opened in September) provides state-of-the-art amenities and services.
Inspired by the linear, clean lines popular in mid-century Italian estates, Milanese architect Antonio Citterio clad the spa throughout with finely grooved dark-walnut panels, corrugated-metal wall art, sleek water features, and slate-grey floors. Before guests indulge in luxurious spa treatments, they may choose to work out in the 24-hour athletic room stocked with Technogym treadmills, stationary bikes, and weight machines—then explore the dry sauna and the Carrara-marble steam room that are both equipped with chromatherapy lights for bathing in a flow of colors. Book one of two exclusive spa suites to soak in a personal whirlpool, experience a traditional tension-releasing Thai massage, and unwind in a private adjoining steam room. The spa menu melds Italian- and Asian-inspired elements for treatments including the 30-minute Home Grown scrub (about $80), mixed fresh for each guest using locally sourced orange juice, olive oil, anti-inflammatory oregano, detoxifying thyme, and skin-smoothing rice kernels, all harvested just outside the city. Post-scrub, guests can snack on dates, sip on goji-berry-infused mint tea, and stretch out on woven-leather chaise lounges overlooking the 82-foot heated lap pool. Or they can visit the on-site salon to prepare for a night out in Milan’s trendy Brera district. (mandarinoriental.com)
