One Mind and a Lot of Heart

Janice O’Leary

This fall, Napa Valley’s Staglin Family Vineyard will host one of the season’s most meaningful and celebratory events: the 20th annual Music Festival for Brain Health. To date, the organizations founded by the Staglins—One Mind for Research and the International Mental Health Research Organization—have funneled nearly $200 million into cutting-edge research on cognitive health and brain science. This year’s event takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 13 and 14. Saturday’s festivities include a scientific symposium featuring the medical superstars Eric Lander, PhD, and Steven Hyman, MD-PhD. Following that will be a tasting with some of the world’s top wine producers, including Dana Estates and Shafer Vineyards, as well as a concert by rising artists Vintage Trouble at the Staglin property in Rutherford. On Sunday, special guest Jewel will perform live at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville. One hundred percent of net proceeds from the festival support the research done by the One Mind for Research campaign and its affiliated scientists. (707.963.4038, www.music-festival.org)
