Get Ahead of Home Trends at the WestEdge Design Fair

From October 22 through 25, the third-annual WestEdge Design Fair, a four-day event showcasing modern designs and home furnishings from more than 150 upscale designers and architects, will take place in Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar. In addition to perusing booths filled with cutting-edge furniture, lighting, and kitchen and bathroom decor, attendees can sit in on panels hosted by leading design experts. Discussions will range from “Bringing the Travel Experience Home: Design Inspiration from Around the World” to “Kitchens for Entertaining: Get the Essential Mix for the Consummate Party Experience.” Made:Modern—a new design show section—will highlight bespoke pieces handcrafted specifically for the event from over 40 independent designers. Items include ceramic sculptures by the former art director at Bergdorf Goodman, Pamela Sunday; furniture and lighting with simple and clean lines by San Francisco–based design company blankblank; and eclectic old-world pieces by Los Angeles–based firm Sorelle Fine Arts, which also specializes in restoring furnishings and oddities after, for example, water or earthquake damage.

A host of decorators from the Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA) has also partnered with Robb Report Home & Style (an event sponsor) to create a speakeasy-themed lounge where guests can mingle and sip cocktails during the event. Spearheaded by three-time Emmy Award–winning set decorator Melinda Ritz, the area will hearken to watering holes from eras past. Several pieces were created exclusively for the speakeasy, including wallpapers from Brenda Houston and Astek; a custom-made sofa and pillows from Melinda Ritz Interiors; and a bathtub-whiskey table (using Michter’s whiskey bottles) made by Warner Bros. and SDSA set decorators.
