Home & Design: Best of the Best Kitchens & Baths: Jacuzzi's La Scala Bathing & Entertainment Center

<< Back to Robb Report, June 2002

Roy Jacuzzi is still passionate about his hot tubs. Last year he launched the Private Collection limited-edition series with the Vizion whirlpool, outfitted with a 10-inch LCD TV, DVD player, and stereo system. This year his creative team went into overdrive with the new La Scala Bathing & Entertainment Center, the world’s first combination whirlpool bath and home theater.

Closer in style to Sydney’s visionary opera house than Milan’s neoclassical masterpiece, the capacious La Scala (82 inches x 72 inches) is a feast for all the senses. Two adults can indulge in the therapeutic effects of its 10 fully adjustable whirlpool jets while they watch their favorite movie or sports event. Even those who merely want to soak and listen to Puccini are guaranteed an extraordinary bathing experience. Complemented by dramatic underwater lighting, a panoramic 42-inch, high-definition plasma TV monitor by Panasonic has been built into the gently sloping wall at the back end of the tub. To maximize the vibes of this technological feat, two pairs of powerful Panasonic speakers have been strategically placed to achieve the best surround sound possible in this mini theater-in-the-round. A subtly concealed deck-mounted control panel houses the DVD/CD player, et al. And let us not overlook the ultimate bath toy—a floating remote that controls the whirlpool, audio/video system and lighting. Available in white, black, or a metallic pearlescent-silver finish (pictured), La Scala promises to be a splashing good time.
