The New Spiegelau Stout Glass Is a Beer-Lover’s Necessity

  • Stout glass
  • IPA glass

As U.S.-made craft beer continues its ascent to a level of connoisseurship previously matched only by fine wine and spirits, it seems appropriate that glassmakers would design glassware specifically to accentuate the complex aromas and flavors of these artisan suds. The Austrian glass house Spiegelau has taken charge on this front. Following the Spiegelau IPA glass that it launched last year, the company has created a new glass designed to hold stout beer, which it developed through a partnership with Colorado’s Left Hand Brewing Company and Oregon’s Rogue Ales. Both breweries produce a variety of artisanal stouts—a style typically characterized by its dark color, malty flavor, and thick, foamy head. The wide mouth of the 21-ounce Spiegelau Stout glass is conducive to pouring a strong head, while the flared base helps focus the beer’s aromas, which can then emanate from the glass’s wide opening. The Spiegelau Stout glass is priced at $25 for a set of two. (www.spiegelauusa.com)
