Ward Village, a master-planned community now under development by the Howard Hughes Corp., is generating buzz commensurate with its considerable size and enviable beachfront location in downtown Honolulu. The project could ultimately encompass 4,000 residences in 22 towers (some city approvals are pending), but for now, building is in phase one. Ground broke last June on the first residential building, called Waiea, with completion expected in 2016. The new 36-story glass tower, designed by the Vancouver architect James K.M. Cheng, will have sleek interiors by New York’s Tony Ingrao. These will feature hardwood and stone floors, onyx-walled master baths, and kitchens with Miele appliances. The building’s residents will have access to a fitness center, spa, theater, pool, and indoor golf simulator, not to mention the multitude of nearby shops and restaurants. In November, work commenced on a second tower, Anaha, designed by the Chicago-based firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz in partnership with Benjamin Woo Architects.
