What’s Hot: Brilliant New Lighting Creations

Amanda Millin

These new chandeliers, lamps, and sconces are lighting up the market in a variety of materials, from blown glass to translucent porcelain to brass.

Baroncelli
London and New York
The family-owned Italian design firm Baroncelli, known for its handblown Murano glass lighting, will launch three new pieces at the Decorex International interior design show in London from September 22 to 25. The bespoke lighting designs include the Tobia, a modular design made from handcrafted cristallo trihedrons on a polished chrome frame, which will be available as a chandelier (from about $5,700) and a floor lamp (from about $6,000). The Delano is a linear design constructed of powder-coated metal tubes, available in floor-lamp and pendant forms (from about $2,900). The teardrop-shaped Alice Small pendant (about $1,900) will be available in aquamarine, amber, and lattimo Venetian glass.

Charles de Lisle
San Francisco
Last spring, Massachusetts native Charles de Lisle released Linden—the artist’s interpretation of the season’s budding cherry blossoms in the form of a simple yet glamorous chandelier. De Lisle, who learned welding techniques when he moved to California, hand brazes the hexagonal brass tubing that forms the fixture’s asymmetric tree branch. Linden retails for $14,000 and is available in a polished or satin finish.

Jonathan Browning Studios
San Francisco
The interior design firm Jonathan Browning Studios also creates industrial-inspired pieces from a historic factory building that formerly was home to the San Francisco Call newspaper. This fall, the firm is releasing its new Rochillon chandelier. Handmade from brass and leaded crystal, the chandelier is 54 inches long and features five faceted illuminating globes housed in simple crystal plates. The result is a utilitarian fixture that can accentuate any modern dining room. Five finishes are available, including antique bronze (shown) and polished or satin nickel, and pricing starts at about $12,740.

Lladró
Valencia, Spain
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Lladró reinterpreted the classic crystal chandelier in porcelain with Belle de Nuit—a collection of chandeliers, sconces, and table lamps that will be available this fall. Named after an exotic flower that glows in the moonlight, the whimsical pieces, which range from $750 to $30,000, feature translucent porcelain lampshades called lithophanes that, when lit, reveal intricately hand-etched designs resembling lace or pleats. The stems also are of handcrafted porcelain and vary in color from stark white and soft pink to burnt orange and cobalt blue.

Urban Electric Co.
North Charleston, South Carolina
In-house creative director Michael Amato turned away from the Urban Electric Co.’s decade-long history as a lantern production company and looked to vintage watch faces as the inspiration for the brand’s new Bezel sconce, which launched in July. The $2,835 accent light comes in two dozen different finishes, including polished nickel (shown), with glass that can be customized with etched or colored options.
