Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel’s modern vision and sheer simplicity of style (best embodied in her celebrated "little black dress") transformed 20th-century women’s fashion. Today, more than 35 years after Chanel’s death, the French luxury-goods house that bears the designer’s name continues to uphold her extraordinary standards of elegance, interpreting her modernist ideals to suit the new century’s tastes—not only in the realm of haute couture, but also in high jewelry.

Chanel’s latest jeweled masterpiece—a parure consisting of a diamond necklace and matching ring—was unveiled at this year’s Biennale des Antiquaires at Paris’ Grand Palais. Made over the course of one year in Chanel’s Paris atelier by a team of master jewelers, the necklace combines a fluid "ribbon" of diamonds, a sleek line of geometric baguette-cut diamonds, and an 8-carat center stone. Each of the necklace’s 2,218 smaller diamonds has been individually cut to enable the piece to drape softly on the neck with a minimal appearance of metal. "The necklace represents the spirit of Coco Chanel," says Benjamin Comar, global director of Chanel Fine Jewelry. "It is reminiscent of the passementerie of a fine haute couture garment, but it is wrapped around a straight line of baguettes." The coordinating ring contains 144 diamonds.

The company has agreed to set this incomparable diamond suite aside for one Robb Report reader. Chanel is also offering as part of this gift an "haute couture package," which includes two tickets to the company’s prestigious Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2009 fashion show in Paris—an event reserved strictly for the world’s top retailers, fashion press, and friends of the house. During the Paris trip, the gift’s buyer and a guest will also receive an escorted tour of Coco Chanel’s private retreat—the famed four-story apartment at 31 rue Cambon where she entertained many of the luminaries of her day, including Jean Cocteau, Igor Stravinsky, and Hubert de Givenchy. Fashion enthusiasts will delight in viewing personal effects, such as the stalks of wheat that recall Chanel’s peasant upbringing, and the Chinese Coromandel screens with floral borders that inspired the signature camellia pin she wore on her lapel.

The trip will culminate in a private dinner at Chanel Fine Jewelry’s boutique on Place Vendôme, which is located across from the Ritz hotel. Redesigned by Peter Marino to emulate Coco Chanel’s apartment, the boutique evokes the ambience of an elegant drawing room.
