Front Runners August 2015: Cluster Sampling

  • The lime-citrine-and-gold earrings from Chris Davies New York.

For each of his beaded jewelry designs, Chris Davies (chrisdaviesnewyork.com) begins with a handmade 18-karat-gold setting that he covers with hundreds of gold beads woven together with fine steel threads to create a voluminous texture. “The clustered-bead patterns are from ancient jewelry,” says Davies, who is based in New York and studied art history and fashion design before becoming a goldsmith’s apprentice. His newest collection showcases bright-colored gemstones such as orange carnelian, pink sapphire, and green demantoid garnet. The lime-citrine-and-gold earrings shown here are priced at $8,950.
