The New York jewelry artist Monika Knutsson uses vintage circular lace to create her latest jewelry designs. The Swedish-born designer searches for antique fabrics in New York, Paris, and Berlin, culling lace from vintage dresses, petticoats, and linens. After cutting and shaping each piece at her studio, Knutsson then dips the lace in sterling silver, 24-karat gold, or rose gold. For some pieces, she adds delicate pearls, striking geodes, or semiprecious stones. Each jewelry piece comes with a description detailing the provenance of the lace and its original purpose. In Knutsson’s latest Vintage Circle Collection, the Wanda and Magali rings (from $295 and $395, respectively) are made with 1960s and ’70s Guipure lace, typically used in formal dresses. Knutsson’s lace cuffs range in price from $595 to $1,450, rings from $195 to $375, and necklaces from $250 to $1,100. (212.217.0679, monikaknutsson.com)
